Diet and Exercise can Reduce the Risk of Alzheimer’s Among Seniors

A new study has revealed that the risk of developing Alzheimer’s disease in older adutls is decreased in those who exercise and also those who eat a Mediterranean-style diet. This study conducted by Columbia University tracked 1,800 people in New York and assessed their diets as well as their levels of physical activity. 282 cases of Alzheimer’s were identified after an average of 5 years.

It was found that people who followed the healthiest diet had a 40% less chance of developing Alzheimer’s. It was also found that people who exercised the most had a 37% less chance of developing the disease.  It’s also proven that these work independently, and it was found that those who, both ate healthfully and remained active experienced the greatest benefits.

In the study, the people in the top third, in terms of both exercise and diet had a 59% less chance of developing Alzheimer’s.  This just goes to show you how much a little activity can help prevent the terrible effects of Alzheimer’s disease.  Home Instead Senior Care is an excellent support to eating healthy and physical activity.
