Free Training for Working Caregivers in Michigan

COMMUNITY CAREGIVER TRAINING PROGRAM

2009 WINTER MODULE ANNOUNCED

Home Instead Senior Care, Binson’s Home Health Care Centers, and the Alzheimer’s Association have teamed up with the Working Caregiver Initiative to train our community’s caregivers so that they can effectively care for others as well as themselves.

The Community Caregiver Training program (CCTP) is offered three times each year, and is made available to the general public free of charge. Space is limited at each session, and reservations are required for attendance.

The next CCTP will be held at the Troy Community Center (3179 Livernois in Troy, Michigan) with CCTP training sessions available on Wednesday and Thursday, February 3rd and 4th, 2008. Available two-hour training sessions are as follows:

Wednesday, February 3: 12:00 p.m., 3 p.m., and 6 p.m.

Thursday, February 4: 9 a.m., 11 a.m., and 3 p.m.

To attend one of the six training sessions, please call 248-203-2273 and reserve your spot. Each session is limited to 32 participants.

The CCTP’s Winter Training Module will offer four 30-minute hands-on classes in a round-robin format which includes (1) How To Use a Manual Hoyer Lift, (2) How To Perform Pivot Transfers, (3) How to Monitor Glucose and Blood Pressure, and (4) Personal Care Products: Bath-in-a-Bag. Instructors will include a certified physical therapist, Home Instead Senior Care training staff, and product specialists from Binson’s Home Health Care Centers.

At the conclusion of this module, caregivers will feel comfortable operating a manual hoyer lift, will understand proper transfer mechanics when using the pivot method, will be familiar with the equipment used to monitor blood sugar and blood pressure and have an understanding of what the measurements mean, and will learn the value of using personal care products to help seniors maintain their independence within the home.

Once again, participation in the CCTP is free of charge, but space is limited. Please call 248-203-2273 to reserve your space today. A certificate of completion will be given to all of those who attend the program.
