Work-life benefits continue to improve at companies ranked on FORTUNE magazine’s “100 Best Companies to Work For” list. The most recent list shows that 85 of these companies provide eldercare services. This statistic is yet another indicator of the importance of the Home Instead Senior Care Network’s services for working families.
The FORTUNE “100 Best” list is unique among workplace surveys in that two-thirds of the weight of the review is based on employee survey data. The full list is available online at http://money.cnn.com/magazines/fortune/bestcompanies/2008/.
“The best way to find out if a company is a good employer is to ask the employees who work there,” said Milton Moskowitz, who, along with Great Place to Work Institute co-founder Robert Levering, co-authored all of the “100 Best” lists since 1998. According to Levering, “Having great workplaces is becoming a more central part of the corporate agenda. This is not just a feel-good thing; it’s a bottom-line thing.”

Note from Bert…
One thing to remember here is that this statistic is in the minority. The majority of American businesses do not offer eldercare services. Some staggering stats for you…Currently there are 11 working adults for every 1 senior 65+. By the year 2050 there will be 4 working adults per senior 65+. This all equals stress on both the economy, an already failing social security program, and the famil caregiver.
Some more stats for you…60% of working Americans provide some form of caregiving to a loved on in their family. A full 40% of Americans are sandwich generation caregivers, providing support for both their parents and children.
Did you know that today’s baby boomer will have spent an average of 17 years caring for a child, and nearly 18 years caring for a parent?
The bottom line here is this…toll-free phone numbers for support provided by most companies through EAPs is not enough. Workplace support groups and even benefits such as eldercare and vouchers will become the norm, and those who do this now will be seen as the the best companies in America.
