Music Therapy Focus of Birmingham Caregiver Support Group

DECEMBER BIRMINGHAM CAREGIVER SUPPORT GROUP MEETING TO FOCUS ON MUSIC THERAPY

Each month the Birmingham Area Senior Center hosts a Caregiver Support Group Meeting.  The next meeting will be held on Tuesday, December 11, 2007 beginning at 10:00 a.m.  The Senior Center is located at 2121 Melvindale Avenue in Birmingham.

In December, the group’s focus will be on the benefits and impact of music therapy in assisting the elderly in coping with pain and depression.  The special guest speaker, Tammy Kujawa, a board certified music therapist, works for Seasons Hospice.  A graduate of Eastern Michigan University, Tammy will show through an interactive presentation, how music music therapy is an inner-personal process using live music intervention to assist the client with emotional, spiritual, physical, and mental areas by a board certified professional.  Using guitar, piano, harp, and other instruments, those in attendance will learn the history of music therapy and hear case studies of how music therapy was effective.

A continental breakfast will be served.

The support group is moderated by Bert Copple, community service representative for Home Instead Senior Care.  For more information, please call the Home Instead office at 248-203-2273.
